What is AS9110?
AS9110 is the internationally recognized Quality Management System standard specifically for the aviation, space, and defense Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) industry.
First published in 2003 and based on ISO 9001, AS9110 was developed by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) to address the unique quality requirements of aerospace maintenance organizations. The standard adds aerospace-specific requirements for configuration management, traceability, maintenance planning, airworthiness, technical data control, and safety-critical work that go beyond generic ISO 9001 requirements.
AS9110 applies to organizations performing maintenance, preventive maintenance, overhaul, repair, inspection, servicing, and modification of aircraft, engines, components, and ground support equipment. It covers the entire maintenance lifecycle—from receiving components and work orders through disassembly, inspection, repair, reassembly, testing, certification, and return to service. The standard emphasizes compliance with regulatory requirements (FAA, EASA, etc.), customer specifications, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) instructions, and airworthiness directives.
AS9110 integrates with ISO 9001 (Quality Management) Learn more → as its foundation and can be combined with AS9100 (Aerospace Manufacturing) Learn more → for organizations that both manufacture and maintain aerospace products. AS9110 certification is increasingly required by major airlines, military organizations, and aerospace OEMs as a condition of doing business.
